Good Governance (including transparency and the Rule of Law)

This theme tackles the region’s democratic backsliding and challenges to institutional transparency, including issues of state capture, corruption, and weak rule of law. It will examine the shrinking space for civil society and independent media, and link these issues to progress—or the lack thereof—on key EU accession criteria and chapters of the Acquis.
