British Ambassador to Macedonia Charles Garrett handed over Friday the invitation letter of the British PM Theresa May to PM Zoran Zaev for 2018 Western Balkans Summit, which will be held in London in the framework of Berlin Process.
In the letter, British PM emphasised that the goal of the London Summit is to support Western Balkan countries and their commitment for good-neighbourly relations, regional cooperation and addressing challenges in these processes.
PM May underlined that leaders of Trieste Summit agreed that the integration is strategic investment in peace, democracy, prosperity, security and stability, adding that UK is ready to help with expertise and experience for stronger progress. Referring that Britain’s support to the region is long-term support, May said that they support the region on its Euro-Atlantic path.
Government’s Press Service told that Zaev at the meeting with Garrett thanked for UK’s support to Macedonia and the entire Western Balkans.
The interlocutors discussed the importance of the planned topics to be tackled at the London Summit. In the sphere of providing prosperity, the focus will be on the interconnection of states, energy, digitization and entrepreneurship, and dealing with corruption, organised crime, the movement of people and goods, terrorism and violent extremism will be discussed in the sphere of security.
Zaev told that Macedonia will actively contribute to all important issues that will be discussed at the Summit.
“Macedonia’s strategic goals are the integration into the European Union and NATO. We are aware that only together, as a region, via good neighbourly economic and political cooperation, we can achieve progress and contribute to security and development for the states, and myself as Prime Minister and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia are strongly committed to these goals and processes,” Zaev said.
The meeting also focused on the needs of internal reform processes especially in independence of judiciary and the rule of law.
